The HADP Kylix Page is a compilation of info and links pertaining to Inprise/Borlans's soon to be released Kylix product.  Got a scoop?  Found a new Kylix article?  Send me the info (LarryShepard@ev1.net) and I'll publish it!

What is Kylix?   Kylix is , a component-based development environment for two-way visual development of GUI, Internet, database, and server applications, will be powered by a new high-speed native Linux C/C++/Object Pascal (Delphi) compiler that will implement a Linux version of the Borland Visual Component Library architecture.

Here is Borland's definition of Kylix "

Why the big fuss about Kylix?  When Kylix is released, thousands of applications will immediately be available on the Linux operating system.  In addition, Linux developers are cr                                      ying for an effective RAD environment -- they hope that Kylix will fit the bill.

Which Linux GUI will Inprise use for Kylix Qt, the base library for KDE.  According to Borland..."based on performance and cross-platform Linux and Windows support, Qt was the obvious choice for Kylix".

David I. repots "Kylix response astonishing!"
The response to Kylix has been astonishing! We launched theworld's first native RAD tool for Linux at Linux World Conference and Expo on January 31, and immediately received a prize for "best development tool" from the show sponsors.  Since then, articles have begun to appear in all the industry trade magazines and newspapers. KDE Desktop now available for Linux  6/14/00 -The KDE Team announced the release of KDE 1.91, codenamed "Kleopatra", the second beta preview of KDE's next-generation, powerful, modular desktop.

Gartner Group rubs the Crystal Ball Concerning Linux/Kylix Gartner sees evolutionary growth of Linux primarily to slow corporate adoption ans sees Klix growth paralleling Linux.  "Borland development tools... will allow developers to leverage skill sets and code in both environments. So not only will Windows apps port to Linux, in the near future, apps written for Linux will also port to Windows".
